The University Institute for Industrial Heat Systems (IUSTI) is a research laboratory of the Mechanics and Energetics Department of the University Polytechnic School of Marseille.
« IUSTI's role is to develop a mathematical model of forest fire propagation. The first goal of this model is to optimize the number and deployment of devoted on-site sensors (known as GoNoGo) with the dual aim of detecting a fire outbreak and raising the alarm when a fire front approaches a sensitive area. Moreover, its speed (from 100 to 1000 times faster than real time) makes it an operational tool which is capable, during the crisis, of forecasting the evolution of a fire and analyzing the efficiency of the means to combat it. »

Bernard PORTERIE - CNRS manager in charge of the propagation module
